| Laying. |
| Full-area bonding. With this method of laying, the parquet elements are adhered directly to a suitable subfloor over its entire area. The solid connection to the subfloor prevents hollow sounding, the „drumming“ effect, creaking and vibrations when walking, during the whole life of the parquet floor! When laying through several rooms, visually satisfying solutions are possible without thresholds or connecting rails. Full area bonded parquet allows joint-free adap-tation to fixed building components such as door frames, columns, stairposts, stone and metal surrounds in front of open fireplaces, etc. The low installation height of 8-13 mm enables joints to be made to other floor coverings without unsightly profile strips to trip over. |

| Floating installation. In the case of floating installation, the parquet elements are bonded together only laterally in the tongue-and-groove joint (or „snapped in“ without adhesive). There is no bonding to the floor. With re-novations and new construction having floors that do not fulfil the requirements for full-area bonding, floating parquet can usually be laid without much pre-paration (laying directly onto old, short piled carpets is possible with this type of parquet during renovation). Since floating parquet is usually laid on top of some form of underlay (insulating felt, cork etc.) an increase in impact sound reduction is achieved. |

Laying over subfloor heating. The thermal resistance should not exceed ca. 0,17 m2K/W. Bauwerk solid and 2-layer parquet have outstanding values in the range of 0,038 to 0,09 m2K/W, but even the 3-layer parquet types still lie within the ideal range at ca. 0,14 m2K/W. In the case of wood types with higher amounts of shrinkage and swelling (e.g. beech), one has to expect slightly larger gaps and dishing during the heating season. By maintenance of a healthy room climate (20 to 22 °C und ca. 40 - 50 % relative humidity), this effect can be counteracted. Also in the interest of the well-being of the inhabitants, a room air humidifier is to be recommended during the heating period. |
