Bauwerk parquet flooring: made from sustainable timber
Woods are the green lungs of our planet. An incalculably valuable treasure which we must protect, as this richly diverse ecosystem isn’t just important to individual regions. It’s actually essential for the very survival of mankind.
In the great rainforests, fire clearing, illegal tree felling and road expansion have increased dramatically in the last few years and could cause climatic change. But at the same time, timber is a natural, sustainable raw material which with planned forestry can be turned into “green gold”, bringing many countries an export income which secures their stability.
As a wood processing company, therefore, Bauwerk has a very special responsibility which it meets fully: Bauwerk aims to process only timbers which come from sustainable forestry plantations. Bauwerk has set itself two targets:
|
|
| - to achieve the best possible environmental standards. |
| - to process only timber from controlled forestry plantations. |
Thanks to this prior commitment, much has already been achieved and implemented. But Bauwerk wants to do even more: in one or two years’ time, all wood varieties in its broad range must carry a recognised guarantee label (attached is a list of the most common wood certificates).
Bauwerk has decided to prioritise the FSC label, as this accreditation is preferred by the important environmental groups WWF Wood Group and Greenpeace. FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council, founded in 1993, and this is what gave this accreditation its name. No other label is subject to rules as stringent as those laid down by this organisation. It covers the whole journey of the wood; from the forest through trade, sawmills, processing and into your living room. This seamless control is known as «chain of custody», or COC. Only the companies in possession of this rigorous accreditation, thereby maintaining the “chain of custody”, is permitted to manufacture and sell FSC products. A copy of the FSC accreditation awarded to us is attached.
|
| Bauwerk already offers a range of parquet floors marked with the «FSC pure» (100%) label. With this, customers can be sure that they’re buying something which doesn’t harm our environment, as well as looking beautiful in their home. |
 |
| The same is true for the «FSC mixed sources» label. In this instance, where flooring is made up of two layers, one layer must have certified FSC origins, while the rest of the material must come from controlled, sustainable forestry sources (e.g. PEFC). |
 |
The demand for raw wood from FSC accredited forests is constantly growing and cannot yet be met fully in terms of either volume or quality. Throughout this transitional phase, the FSC Mixed label provides developers when they buy Bauwerk parquet flooring with an incentive to buy with the environment in mind and ensure that they use sustainable timber.
Bauwerk is on the right track. A track which can lead in only one direction: thanks to all of our efforts, making the forests once more the most environmentally friendly factory on Earth.
Kind regards

Q-Label = Q-Swiss Quality
Swiss sustainability label, also accepted by PEFC.

FSC pure (100 %)
All wood used comes with confirmation of origin from FSC certified sources. |
 |
EU Area
Because of the regulatory framework affecting forestry throughout Europe, woods from the EU Area are deemed to be “of controlled origin”. |
 |
FSC mixed sources
Bauwerk AG can sell as many FSC products as the quantity of FSC wood it buys in allows. In the case of our two-layer parquet flooring, one layer must have certified FSC origins, while the rest of the timber must come from controlled, sustainable forestry sources (e.g. PEFC certification).
